On January 4-5, international Ski Jumping competitions will take place at the normal hill at Lugnet, featuring the Women’s Intercontinental Cup and the Men’s FIS Cup. For the World Championships organizing committee, these events serve as test events with the aim of building and training the future World Championship organization, as well as testing the venue in a competitive setting.
Participants from around 10 nations will be in Falun for the Ski Jumping competitions January 4-5. The Women’s Intercontinental Cup is one step below the World Cup, while the Men’s FIS Cup is two steps below the World Cup. Many of the Ski Jumpers hope to represent their countries at the World Championships in Falun in 2027. The Swedish Ski Jumpers Jenny Forsberg, Larisa Avram, and Rickard Nyström, will participate in the Intercontinental Cup and FIS Cup.
Per Busk is Chief of competition for Falun 2027 but also for the competitions this weekend. He is looking forward to the competitions, not only to organize high-quality events for the participants but also to collaborate with the volunteers in executing an important test event for the World Championships.
-Most of the functions for the World Championships will be tested on-site during the competition weekend in January. All volunteers are also aware that after this competition, the work will continue, with a focus on expanding the entire organization for the pre-World Championships, World Championships, and Junior World Championships,” he explains.
During the competition weekend on January 4-5, more than 60 volunteers will be involved at the hill. By the time of the 2027 World Championships, over 200 volunteers are expected to be engaged during the ski jumping events.
-So, anyone interested in working in this spectacular and fantastic environment is warmly welcome to contact me says Per Busk, who mentions that the volunteer team currently includes a mix of experienced people who have been involved in ski jumping for many years (some were part of the 1993 and 2015 World Championships) as well as newcomers.
– I’m glad that we already have a number of new people who have never been to a Ski Jumping competition before but are eager to be part of building the organization. It’s really exciting.”
