The International Ski and Snowboard Federation, FIS, meets future World Ski Championships organizers twice a year for Coordination Group meetings where you go through the upcoming event area by area. Last week, the FIS visited Falun to get the latest update on the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships project and various working group meetings were held.  An important part of the planning and the preparations is the sports organization and at the meeting, Tomas Jons and Per Busk were presented as Chief of competition for Cross Country and Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined.

– At our FIS Coordination Group meeting in September last year we were asked to work further on the sports organization and appoint key positions.  We have started this work and we are happy that Tomas Jons and Per Busk now can start working with the development of the sports organization and the competitions together with the FIS, says Ulrika Back Falun 2027.

The FIS delegation, which among others included Secretary General Michel Vion, Sport and Event Director Sandra Spitz, Commercial Director Christian Salomon and the Race Directors for Cross-Country, Ski Jumping Women and Men and Nordic Combined. Visited the various venues at Lugnet 2027. Lugnet is no doubt an arena in good condition with great opportunities.

– Falun has a very good base to build on but I encourage the Falun and the FIS Team to not lay back but instead to work intensively on the project in order to create another outstanding Nordic Ski Festival for Falun, Sweden and the entire Ski- and Snowboard Family, says Sandra Spitz, FIS Sport and Event Director.

Falun 2027 intend to deliver a new and innovative skiing experience once again for the competitors, the spectators and the TV viewers. To be able to achieve this and to deliver something to remember and to talk about in the future, Falun 2027 will work together with Tension Graphics/Tension Onsite Sport, a company based in Falun.

At the meeting, Magnus Björkman from Tension Graphics/Tension Onsite Sport presented in an inspiring way how Falun 2027 could work with gamification to develop and offer new experiences.

During the FIS’ visit to Falun, several working group meetings with different focus topics were held.  They included visits to the arenas and continued dialogue regarding the Hosting Contract (the agreement between the FIS, the Swedish Ski Association, Falu Municipality and Skid-VM i Falun 2027 AB).

– We have had constructive and good discussions regarding the Hosting Contract, and I feel that all parties are working together to clarify every part of the agreement. The meeting days with the FIS have been fruitful and we now look forward to the continued journey together, says Sara Tigerström Monfelt Falun 2027.

The next Coordination Group meeting will be held in the fall of 2024.
