Norwegian victory after strong cross-country skiing

It was a Norwegian victory in the mixed team event in Nordic combined.
— Always fun to win. That’s what we train for, says Aleksander Skoglund, who skied the anchor leg.

Earlier in the day, the ski jumping portion of the mixed team event in the Continental Cup in Nordic combined was decided. Austria won the ski jumping round and started the cross-country segment with a one-second lead. During the cross-country race, Norway pulled away on the middle legs, and heading into the final leg Aleksander Skoglund had a clear gap to chasing Austria:
— I got a fantastic starting position from my teammates. I focused on putting together a strong race in the tracks. And it’s always fun to win. That’s what we train for, Skoglund says with a smile.

The winning margin for the Norwegian quartet (Mille Marie Hagen, Ida Marie Hagen, Kasper Moen Flatla and Aleksander Skoglund) was 1 minute and 14 seconds. With today’s victory, Ida Marie Hagen has won all three competitions in Falun. Aleksander Skoglund leaves Falun with a relay victory, a win in Friday’s competition, and a fifth-place finish on Saturday:
— This was the first time I’ve competed here since 2019. It was really great to come back and test both the courses and jump in the hills again. My goal is to come back here to compete at the World Championships next year. It was perfect to get a clear picture of what I need to work on to succeed on these courses. And I’ve gained valuable experience from the hill as well, says Skoglund.

The Continental Cup in Nordic combined has now concluded. But for the cross-country skiers, an exciting race remains. At 16:05, the women’s skiathlon begins.
