One Year to Falun 2027: “We want to create memories for life”

Lugnet is currently preparing for this weekend’s festivities. At the same time, preparations for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships are underway. Today, February 24, marks exactly one year until Falun 2027 opens.
— Our goal is to create ‘Memories for life,’ and we are well on our way, says Kajsa Sjösvärd, acting CEO of Falun 2027.

Falun has previously hosted the Nordic World Championships in cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and Nordic combined on four occasions: 1954, 1974, 1993, and 2015. And in exactly one year, it will be time again.

On February 24, 2027, the qualification rounds for the cross-country events will take place (the first medals will be awarded the following day), along with the opening ceremony.
— “We are currently working at full speed to create the best conditions for everyone to come and enjoy Lugnet as a venue—whether you are a sports enthusiast or primarily here to experience the festival atmosphere,” says Kajsa Sjösvärd.
— Our goal is to create ‘Memories for life,’ and we are well on our way. It’s about letting the audience enjoy the celebrations at Lugnet, but also experience the buzz in town and across the entire Dalarna region. It’s important to showcase the full variety that Dalarna has to offer.

A hugely important part of any championship is, of course, all the Heroes of Falun 2027 (volunteers) who come from near and far to help create the festival:
— We currently have 1,600 registered volunteers, so we are on track to reach the 2,000 volunteers who will be on site when Falun 2027 kicks off next year, says Maria Hållmarker, responsible for Heroes.

Kajsa Sjösvärd:
— The organization is growing rapidly. This, combined with all our fantastic Heroes who are responsible, committed, and working to ensure an inclusive championship, is incredible. We have high expectations and high hopes, especially with the upcoming weekend competitions in both cross-country tracks and ski jumps, and at the same time, we continue working toward next year’s World Championships. One year to go today—it feels wonderful.
