Children and young people will be in focus when Falun 2027 opens its doors for two special activity days: Kids Day and Youth Festival.
— We want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere, the competitions, and the sense of community on site, says Niclas Johansson, Head of Events and Ceremonies for Falun 2027.
FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun will officially open on February 24.
A few hours before the opening ceremony, the qualification races in cross-country skiing for the less established skiing nations will take place, and admission will be free for everyone to come and experience the championship atmosphere firsthand.
There will be a special focus on the youngest visitors during Kids Day, aimed at children aged 3–13.
— We will offer a wide range of activities for children. There will be entertainment, exhibitors specifically targeting children, and opportunities to try both cross-country skiing and ski jumping. And of course, visitors will be able to hug and high-five our championship mascots Bubo and Bubolina, says Niclas Johansson, Head of Events and Ceremonies for Falun 2027.
Many of these activities will take place in the family area at Lugnet Athletics Stadium.
— The idea is for our family area to be an oasis and activity zone open throughout the entire championships, specifically designed for families with children. During Kids Day, we also hope that preschools and schools will take the opportunity to visit the championship arena and experience the atmosphere in person, Johansson says.
Two days later, on Friday, February 26, it will be time for the next activity day during the championship celebrations: Youth Festival.
During Youth Festival, all young people up to 18 will enjoy free admission. In addition, anyone in other age groups who has purchased a ticket for any of the other competition days will also be able to claim a free ticket for Friday.
— This is the day before the winter school break begins, so we hope this will be an amazing start to the holiday for all students. An exciting afternoon and evening await. Not least because Sweden’s ski jumping star Frida Westman will make her first championship appearance since finishing fourth at the Olympics. She will compete in the normal hill at Lugnet, and the atmosphere in the ski jumping arena is expected to be incredible, says Johansson.
The purpose of the activity days is to make it possible for more people and new target groups to experience the championship celebrations on site, while also building long-term interest in skiing, physical activity, and community.
Free tickets for the activity days will be available through the championship ticket shop. All visitors must have a ticket, even on days with free admission.
