Bubo and Bubolina – The wise and proud mascots of Falun 2027

Now the mascots for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships have been unveiled. Let us introduce the eagle owl pair Bubo and Bubolina.

– They are not only wise as an owl, but also represent curiosity, warmth, and security, says Lisa Johansson, head of marketing for Falun 2027.

The then-endangered eagle owl Bubo was the mascot when the World Championships were held in Falun in 1993. Bubo was created by designer Owe Sandström and illustrator Anita Stray. When Bubo (named after Bubo bubo, the Latin name for the eagle owl—the world’s largest owl) made his comeback at the 2015 World Championships, he was more mobile and would dance, give high-fives, and play with children—unlike in 1993, when Bubo was more of a fairytale character.

Now Bubo is gearing up for his third World Ski Championship as a mascot, this time together with his partner Bubolina:
– Bubo and Bubolina represent curiosity and warmth. We don’t yet know which path they will choose toward 2027. But who knows—perhaps we will see Bubo and Bubolina dressed in festive attire, in the form of a potpourri of all the traditional parish costumes of Dalarna, says Johansson.

As early as next weekend, children will have the chance to meet, play with, and hug Bubo and Bubolina. This will take place in connection with the weekend’s competitions in the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup and the Nordic Combined Continental Cup.
