Falun is a place for everyone! It is Dalarna´s largest municipality with almost 60 000 residents. We are proud of our history! During the 17th century Falun was Sweden´s second largest city and helped form the Sweden of today. Falun is a World Heritage site since 2001.

Falun has a vibrant city center with more than 200 shops, cafés and restaurants. With peace of the countryside just around the corner from the pulse of the city you can enjoy nature and outdoor activities

Falun is a reason for sports and is well-known for excellent sport facilities, and the Lugnet venue is situated within 2 km from the main square.

We hope everyone will find their way to Falun during the World Championships! Some to travel over the day, and some from distances for away in need of a place to spend the night. The best way to find a place is through the destination company “Visit Dalarna”.

How to get here

For international visitors the best way is to travel is by train to Falun C or by air to Stockholm Arlanda (a few hours from Falun). To get to Falun within Sweden the best way is by train to Falun C. From the train station you can walk for 2.2km or take the local bus.

Lugnet – the national arena for nordic winter sports

Lugnet Venue in Falun is one of the most complete sports and recreational facilities in the world. At Lugnet 60 of the Swedish Sports Confederation’s 70 special sports can be practiced. Lugnet has 1-1,2 million visitors per year.

The World Heritage of Falun

In 2001, the industrial-historic landscape around Stora Kopparberget and Falun was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. A thousand years of history is the basis of this fantastic award.

During the World Championships you have a great chance to see the iconic places on the list – the Falu Mine, the churches in the city, the Falun River, and the mine-owners estates around the city.
