The interest in renting accommodation in connection with Falun 2027 is very high. Here’s a guide on how to go about renting out your accommodation – and how, as a visitor, you can find your “home” during the championship festivities.
On February 24, Falun 2027 kicks off with the opening ceremony and cross-country skiing qualification events. During the nearly two weeks leading up to the women’s 50 km race and the closing ceremony on March 7, a large number of visitors will come to Dalarna. Most of them will need accommodation, ranging from a single night to the entire championship period.
What should I do if I have accommodation I want to rent out?
— The best and safest way is to register your property through Visit Dalarna’s booking platform and fill in the details about yourself and your accommodation. A representative from Visit Dalarna will then contact you. If you rent out through Visit Dalarna’s channels, they handle all payments and customer communication. In addition, your accommodation—provided you have valid home insurance—will be covered by supplementary insurance that applies in cases where your own policy does not. As a host, your responsibilities include key handover, supervision, and cleaning, says Niclas Johansson, Head of Accommodation for Falun 2027.
How much will I get paid as a host?
— Visit Dalarna will assist with setting the right price. This is based on several factors such as distance to Lugnet, size of the accommodation, quality of beds, and number of bathrooms. It’s important to note that both small and large properties are of interest. There is also an option to rent out individual rooms in your home, says Niclas Johansson.
As a private individual renting out your home, you are entitled to a standard deduction of up to SEK 40,000 from your rental income. This means that in most cases, you will not need to pay tax on rental income below SEK 40,000. Read more on the Swedish Tax Agency’s website.
Can I rent out my home even if I live some distance from Falun?
— Absolutely. Anything within roughly an hour’s travel time is very interesting (however, only properties within Dalarna can be listed on Visit Dalarna’s website). Interest is already high and will continue to grow as the event approaches. So if you already know you want to rent out your property, you can register it now. But if you prefer to wait until after the summer, that works just as well.
What if I have a large house near Lugnet and want to rent it out to media, athletes, or service teams?
— You register in the same way, through Visit Dalarna’s booking platform. There is a strong demand here as well, but in these cases it’s especially important that the accommodation is close to the arena to facilitate logistics for guests traveling to Lugnet, says Johansson.
I’m coming to Falun 2027 and want to book accommodation. Where should I look?
— You can do this via Visit Dalarna’s dedicated accommodation page for the championship. There, you can filter and search to find the option that best suits you, your family, or your group of friends. You can book anything from a single night to the entire championship period, says Niclas Johansson.
If my group of friends or my association wants to experience the event on site and stay in simple accommodation (e.g. floor sleeping), is that possible?
— For groups of more than 15 people, we will offer this option. You’ll stay in school classrooms in Falun, and as a visitor you bring your own sleeping gear, such as an inflatable sleeping mat. If your group is interested, you can contact accomodation@falun2027.com. Please note that this option is only available for groups of more than 15 people.
